What to Expect at Your First Puppy Yoga Class

You booked your first puppy yoga class. Nice. Now you're probably wondering what you actually got yourself into. Here's the real rundown — no fluff.
Before Class
What to wear: Comfortable clothes you can move in. Think leggings, a t-shirt, sneakers or bare feet. The puppies will climb on you, so skip anything you'd be upset about getting a little furry or slightly chewed on.
When to arrive: 5 to 10 minutes early. You'll need to sign a waiver (you can also do it online beforehand to save time).
What to bring: Just your phone — you'll want photos. We provide yoga mats and everything else.
During Class
Here's how the hour breaks down:
First 10 minutes: You settle onto your mat, the instructor introduces the session, and the puppies are brought out. This is when the room collectively loses it.
Next 40 minutes: Guided yoga flow. The instructor leads you through poses — everything from gentle stretches to warrior sequences. It's all-levels, so don't worry if you've never done yoga. Meanwhile, the puppies roam free. They'll sniff you, climb on you, nap on your mat, and occasionally wrestle each other right next to your downward dog.
Last 10 minutes: Free play time. This is when you sit on your mat, grab a puppy (or three), and just hang out. Photos, cuddles, the works.
The Puppies
Every puppy at Puppy & Flow is a rescue — typically between 8 and 12 weeks old. They're vaccinated, socialized, and being fostered until they find forever homes. Yes, some people have adopted puppies they met in class. No, we won't judge you if you try.
Breeds vary week to week. We've had golden retrievers, huskies, pit mixes, corgis, doodles, and some mystery mutts that stole everyone's hearts.
Common Questions
Do I need yoga experience? No. The class is designed for all levels, and honestly, the puppies make it impossible to take yourself too seriously.
Can I come alone? Absolutely. A lot of people do. You'll be surrounded by other puppy-loving humans — it's easy to feel comfortable.
How many puppies are there? Usually 6 to 10, depending on the week and what our rescue partners have available.
Is it actually yoga? Yes. You'll hold poses, flow through sequences, and get a real stretch in. But it's a relaxed vibe — nobody's judging your form when there's a puppy asleep on your stomach.
Can I bring my own dog? No — for the safety of the rescue puppies, we keep it to our crew only.
After Class
You'll walk out with puppy hair on your clothes, a full camera roll, and an unreasonable urge to adopt. Most first-timers book again within the week. If you want to make it a regular thing, check out our membership plans — they start at $34/month and include priority booking.
